It’s great that you are using sunscreen, moisturizer and avoiding overexposure under the sun as all of these things help protect the skin from damage and therefore keeping it healthy and youthful. However are you committing the most three common mistakes that actually sabotage the skin? (Tweet this) The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery or ASAPS listed down these 3 common mistakes that contribute greatly to faster skin aging.

3 Common Mistakes that Hasten Skin Aging

Mistake No. 1: Not Wearing Sunnies

You may think of sunglasses as simply fashionable accessories but the truth is they do more than just make you look like a rockstar. Sunglasses are actually a crucial part of your anti-aging kit. Aside from protecting your eyes from the sun’s harmful UV rays they also help prevent you from squinting and did you know that repetitive squinting actually can give you crow’s feet? Now getting rid of crow’s feet is not that easy. Usually, it often requires cosmetic treatments such as injectables and fillers. So, whenever going out during the day, make sure that you are wearing a pair of sunglasses with you. You may also want to keep a pair in your car.

Mistake No. 2: Replacing Your Moisturizer with Sunscreen

Sunscreen lotions may be creamy but it does not provide your skin with the same benefits as a moisturizer does. Wearing sunscreen every day is really important. However, it does not mean that just because you’re wearing sunscreen, you can forego the moisturizer. You should understand that not all sunscreens hydrate the skin and some may even dry out your skin. What you want to do is to achieve balance, providing your skin with enough moisturizer. An excellent choice in moisturizers is the Argan oil. It is loaded with nutrients having strong moisturizing properties such as vitamin E, essential fatty acids, and sterols.

Mistake No. 3:  Not Wearing Sunscreen

Sunscreens are meant to protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun’s UV rays hence the name. While it is true that the most dangerous time for the skin is from 10am to 3 pm, this does not mean that you can forget about protecting your skin for the rest of the hours of the day or when the sky is overcast. If you don’t wear sun protection every day, the process of your skin aging gets faster. Prolonged exposure to the sun especially unprotected, makes you more vulnerable to skin damage which shows up on the skin as freckles, age spots or sun spots.
