9 DIY Manicure Tips
- Remove Old Nail Polish
Make sure that you use a polish remover free of acetone. - File Your Nails
Grab your file nail and start filing them until you get the shape that you want. The stylish modern look is a short nail, straight across the top and the edges are rounded. Make sure that you file in one direction. Start at the edges and then move toward the top. - Soak Your Nails
Soften your cuticles by soaking them in soapy water for a few minutes. - Moisturize Your Cuticles
Moisturize your nails and cuticles with a cuticle cream. Just dot in a small amount on each nail and gently rub it in up to your cuticles. You can also use Argan oil as it is a potent nail and cuticle moisturizer thanks to its high content of Vitamin E, essential fatty acids, and sterols. Just a small drop will do the job. - Remove Excess Oils
Use a damp cloth to remove excess oils on the nails. - Apply a Base Coat
Apply a base coat on your nails. Sit back and let it dry first. - Apply Two Coats
Once the base coat has dried up, apply two coats of the polish you want. - Always Start from the Side
Remember to always start first from the side of the nail when applying polish. In just three strokes, you should be able to cover each nail. Start from the side then the second stroke is the other side of the nail and then the last stroke is at the middle. - Apply a Top Coat
Finish it off by applying a top coat. Use the 3-stroke (side-side-center) technique as well when applying the top coat.
