After a Long and Hard Day…What Do You Do?

Most of us are familiar with hectic days. After a long day at work, what most of us long for is a quiet time and an undisturbed long sleep. We just want to go straight to bed and give the tired mind and body the rest they deserve and badly need. Tomorrow is yet another day full of hurdles and we’d want to be able to face them with a fresh mind and reinvigorated body.

But before you plunge in your bed, you may want to try doing things that can actually help soothe the mind and the body. Certain things can actually end your day better right before you say good night to the world.

  • Try praying or meditating
Praying or meditating can calm your mind. With all the thoughts and worries going through your mind the entire day plus worrying for the next day and the days ahead, you’ll have to find a way to bring your mind into a serene and calm state. One way to do this is by praying or meditating. Shut your eyes and breathe deeply. Listen to your deep breathing and feel the rythm of your breathing. You can do some chants or if you’re a believer pray to your god and be thankful.
  • Catch up on some reading
Before you doze off, try reading a book. Doing so will actually help relax your mind. Books have a way of taking us into another world. Try have a book on your bedside that either lets you into a dreamy, happy and soothing world. You may have been used to turning on the TV to help you sleep but the truth is the TV offers you tons of stimulus which just means your brain would be working and turning its wheels again. Reading on the other hand have a calming effect on the nerves as it blocks out excess visual and audio stimuli.
  • Take a relaxing warm bath
A lukewarm bath will soothe tired and sore muscles. This is definitely one of the best ways to end your long and stressful day. You may also want to add a few drops of essential oils into your bath. The Moroccan Argan oil is a great choice. Although Argan oil is known as a powerful beauty product, this oil has wonderful therapeutic benefits. Packed with nutrients having anti-inflammatory properties such as Vitamin E, Sterols and Polyphenols, the oil will help relieve muscle and joint pains.
  • Play a relaxing music
Another way to calm your mind is to listen to relaxing music. Instrumental soft music is calming to the mind. You may also want to listen to the classic music of artists like Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra and Janis Joplin. Nature sounds are also very relaxing and help calm the mind. The soundd of flowing water or chirping birds can lull you to a deep and peaceful sleep.
