Curly Hair Care Mistakes

Here are some of the most common hair care mistakes for curly hair.

  1. Too much shampooing. Do you shampoo your hair every single day? This can be a costly mistake. Excessive shampooing can dry out your hair no matter what hair type you have. So how often should you use shampoo? You’ll have to listen to your hair to get the right answer. You have to note that the amount of oil the scalp produces differ from one person to another. This oil is what conditions the hair and scalp naturally.
For people with medium-coarse or tight texture, once a week to twice a week of shampooing is ideal. For those with fine and wavy pattern, more than twice to thrice a week shampooing can be ideal. If you shampoo more often, it is best to use a non-sulfate shampoo. Non-sulfate shampoos are gentler in cleansing the hair without drying up the scalp. For those, who do not use shampoo often, a clarifying shampoo is recommended. Not cleansing the hair regularly can start causing a build up which can make your hair look dull and weighed down. A clarifying shampoo will help avoid this hair problem.
  2. Brushing textured or curly hair. Not many people with textured or curly hair are not aware that brushing their curly or textured hair is a curly hair care boo-boo. Hairbrushes have a number of teeth, the same with fine-toothed combs. These numerous teeth on brushes and some combs tend to cause expansion causing the curls to separate and start looking dry plus they also cause frizz. It is best to use a wide-toothed comb when your have textured or curly hair.
  3. Skipping deep treatment. This can be one of the worst hair care mistakes for curly locks. Textured and curly hair tend to lack moisture. A deep treatment at least twice a month will make sure that needed moisture can penetrate the hair shaft therefore repairing damage internally. The result is healthy, strong, defined, and frizz-free curls. One of the best natural products to use for deep treatment is the Argan oil. The oil contains nutrients with potent moisturizing properties such as Vitamin E, essential fatty acids, and sterols which are helpful in keeping your curls well hydrated, conditioned, and frizz-free. Simply apply and massage Argan oil all over your scalp and hair from roots to tips then cover your hair with a warm towel. Leave it overnight and simply shampoo and rinse in the morning as you usually do.

Avoid these costly hair care mistakes for your curls and you’ll see the difference!
