Beauty Tips from a Tough, Tired Mom

As a mom, I have been through all of the sleepless nights with children who are teething, vomiting, or just too scared of the monster under their bed to go back to sleep. I have spent countless days worrying about health, bills, and the world around me. I have worked all day at a demanding job only to come home to work all night for my family. I have been through it all. It is not easy for any of us.

One thing that is easy is taking care of your skin. It only takes a few minutes to combat a fatigued appearance. Just because you are exhausted doesn’t mean you have to look like it.

Keep Skin Clean

A soft washcloth and some warm water is all it takes to refresh your skin. You don’t have to use harsh cleansers for a deep clean. Many times it is those over-the-counter cleansers that cause breakouts or dry skin. That will make you even more stressed and tired looking.

I sometimes use a scrub that is made with sea salt, coconut oil, avocado oil and lime to get a really clean feeling without stripping natural oils. I often skip the scrub and simply clean with apple-cider vinegar and a warm water rinse.

Natural Oils Comes With A Wide Array Of Benefits

Never Skip Moisturizer

The biggest no-no a mom can make is skipping moisturizer. It only takes seconds to moisturize skin. You can do it while yelling at their kids about homework. You can do it while you’re hiding in the bathroom to get a moment of peace. There is no excuse not to moisturize.

I have sensitive skin, so I do not use an over-the-counter moisturizer. Instead, I use argan oil. I warm it in my hands first and apply all over my face. I like argan oil because it has well-documented restorative properties. It is also safe to use around my mouth and eyes so I don’t have to have multiple products.

Beauty Starts On the Inside

You will never be able to pull off a fresh look if you are not taking care of yourself from the inside out. Drink plenty of water every day. Keep a bottle of water next to you at all times so you never forget.

It is easy, especially for a busy mom, to reach for takeout or microwavable food. The chemicals, fat and preservatives can wreak havoc on your skin. It is just as easy to reach for a piece of fruit as it is to get a pack of little donuts out of the vending machine at work. Likewise, pack a lunch at home so you don’t have to settle for a greasy drive-through burger. You will look and feel better. Additional bonus: You’ll save money.
