Can the culinary Argan oil help treat diabetes? To find out, let us first get to know more about diabetes.

Diabetes is an affliction affecting many people all over the world. Adults, teens and even young children can suffer from this disease.

Diabetes refers to a group of metabolic disorders wherein one has high levels of blood sugar. This can be caused by inadequate production of insulin, improper response to insulin by the body’s cells or both. People who have high levels of blood sugar usually urinate frequently, are always thirsty and hungry.

The Three Types of Diabetes

  • Type 1 Diabetes
In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. Type 1 diabetes is also referred to as insulin-dependent diabetes, juvenile diabetes, or early-onset diabetes. Commonly, type 1 diabetes develops around early adulthood or teenage years. Adults usually develop type 1 diabetes before they turn 40. It is estimated that about 10% of all diabetes cases are type 1. People who suffer from type 1 diabetes need to take insulin injections for life. It is also important that they have their blood tested regularly to make sure that their blood sugar is at a proper level. Type 1 diabetes patients also have to follow a special diet to ensure proper blood sugar levels. According to the CDC or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a 23% increase of type 1 diabetes among people in the United States under 20 years old was recorded between 2001 and 2009.Here’s a link for the said article.
  • Type 2 Diabetes
In type 2 diabetes, the body is not able to produce enough insulin to ensure proper function or the cells of the body are resistant to insulin. Type 2 diabetes is the most common type. It accounts for about 90% of all diabetes cases globally. In some cases, people are able to control the symptoms of type 2 diabetes through weight loss, a healthy diet, regular exercise and regular monitoring of blood sugar levels. This is definitely good news. The bad news, however is that this type of diabetes is typically progressive meaning in time it gets worse. Patients usually end up taking insulin tablets. Those who are overweight and obese (especially those with a lot of belly fat) are at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
  • Gestation Diabetes
Gestation diabetes affects women during pregnancy. Some pregnant women have such high levels of sugar in their blood and their body is not producing enough insulin to deliver all of the sugar or glucose into the cells. This results to a progressive rise of glucose levels.
In general, pregnant women suffering from this type of diabetes can control the disease with enough exercise and diet. About 10% -20% will have to take medications designed to control blood glucose.
