Many are now hooked on nail art. We love wearing our nails in different colours and designs. But in all these nail fun we are having, we may actually be compromising the health of our nails.

Did you ever once actually think about the health of your nails? Not many of us do so. We are mostly focused in deciding on what colour to paint them in or which nail art would be the most fun to wear. But with all these options available for our nails, with many tempted to change their polish every day or two days, our nail beds can be in for a good damage!

When we think of our nails we should not just think of how they would look lovely in a particular shade or a particular design. We should first and foremost think about their health. A polish every now and then is not that bad for your nails but this is only if you ensure that your nails are kept healthy and well nourished. So how can you keep your nails healthy?

  • Eat a healthy and balanced diet
    Usually the nails serve as a telltale sign of when there is something wrong with the body. Certain changes in the nail’s appearance such as its colour or its texture are usually indicative of an underlying health condition. But the nails can also get brittle and crack easily when they are not well nourished.Your diet plays a great role in the condition of your nails. In this age and time, many of us are feeding our body nothing but junk food. Sure we fill our stomach but since there’s not much nutrients in the food we provide our body with the result is an unhealthy body including an unhealthy set of nails.

    A balanced diet is recommended. You should see to it that your meals include the three food groups known as the go, grow and glow foods. It is also ideal to load up on foods packed with antioxidants such as Vitamins C, E and A as well as B vitamins. These nutrients help keep the nails well-nourished thus making them stronger and not break easily. Essential fatty acids are also recommended as they help keep the nails and cuticles moisturised.
