Going Natural in Caring for the Skin

The myriad of skin care products out in the market are overwhelmingly attractive. They all promise beautiful and youthful skin and they tell you all about the great ingredients that can do the skin wonders. However what they do not reveal are the bad ingredients that cause damage not just to your skin but to your overall health.

Go Natural

The great news is there are natural skin care products that can give you beautiful and youthful skin without harming your health. These natural beauty products are laden with the good ingredients and without the synthetic chemicals that most products are peppered with. These products have gone back to basics, which is making use of the beauty treasures found in Mother Nature. In this scientifically advanced and technologically modernized world, many of us have forgotten about Mother Nature’s beauty treasure chest.

Make Sure It’s Actually Natural

Before you go ahead and grab the very first skin care product you see having an all-natural label, you need to stop and read its ingredients first. Unfortunately the beauty industry does not have any regulations on the terms “natural”, “all-natural” and “organic” labeling. The best thing to do is to get to know the ingredients that have been suspected or known to cause damage to one’s health and to always read the ingredients of any beauty product before paying for it.

Toxic Ingredients in Beauty Products

We have listed some of the most commonly known or suspected ingredients in beauty products that are detrimental to the body. Here they are.

  • Fragrance or Parfum – Fragrance may sound like music to the ear but in the cosmetic world, when Fragrance is present in a skin care product, it means that Phthalates are present. So what does Phthalates mean? The name Phthalates refers to a group of chemicals that have the ability to prolong the lastingness of an aroma. They are referred to as artificial musk. The problem with Phthalates is that they have been linked to numerous cancers and have been suspected to cause reproductive disorders in men. The chemicals in Fragrance are also known to trigger headaches, asthma and eye irritation.
  • Parabens – Parabens is a commonly listed ingredient in many personal care and beauty products. Parabens prolong the shelf-life of products but they have hormone-disrupting effects and have been linked to breast cancer. A research conducted by the University of Reading in the UK reported finding 99% of women with breast cancer who participated in the study had Parabens in the tissue samples collected.
  • 1,4-Dioxane – This chemical is a known carcinogen and by carcinogen it means something that can cause cancer. In product labels anything that is petroleum-derived ethylene oxide can create this chemical carcinogen. Check the product’s ingredients and if you see myreth, oleth, laureth, ceteareth (or any other -eth), PEG, polyethylene, polyethylene glycol, polyoxyethylene, or oxynol in it, don’t purchase the product.

Go natural and avoid these harmful chemicals. Share this helpful information to your friends and loved ones through Facebook, Twitter or e-mail!
