Handmade Holiday Gifts: Beauty Edition
Here’s something that your mother, sisters or girlfriends would love. A DIY natural, soothning and beautifying ointment. This would be great for treating dry skin, chapped lips and even for relieving skin irritations. The best thing about this ointment aside from being made by your precious hands is that it does not come with any toxic ingredient. We’ve made sure of that!
The Equipment You’ll Need
Thinking that you will need special equipment for making this beauty ointment? You’re wrong to think so. Your good old pot will do. Just gather some glass jars with a tight cover as your container for the ointment and you are good to go. Make sure to sterilize the glass jars before you place the ointment in them.
The Ingredients You’ll Need
You won’t have a hard time looking for the ingredients you will need as they are widely available. You’ll need cold-pressed oil such as Argan oil, olive oil, almond oil or grapeseed oil. The Argan oil may be the best choice since this is packed with skin loving nutrients such as Vitamin E, essential fatty acids and numerous other antioxidants. This oil has been nicknamed the liquid gold of Morocco because of its immense skin benefits. It is a potent moisturizer and an anti-aging wonder! Don’t go for any fragrance oils as they have chemicals in them that can harm your health. You will also need essential oils such as lavender, peppermint oil or ylang ylang. These oils are known for having healing properties. Don’t forget to get beeswax.
Preparing the Ointment
Start by heating your pot over low heat. Put in a cup of the cold-pressed oil of your choice and a teaspoon of beeswax. Add in 10 drops of the essential oils you picked then stir away. Keep the stove on low heat so that the oil does not boil. Too much heat destroys the integrity of the oils which just means that they won’t have their healing and beautifying prowess anymore. Keep slowly heating the pot until the beeswax has melted. Once done remove the pot from the heat and stir a few more times to make sure that your ingredients have mixed well. Pour the ointment in the glass jars and let the ointment cool down before putting a lid in them.
This handmade beauty gift will sure be a hit! Share this idea to your friends and loved ones using your Facebook, Twitter or e-mail!
