Hair damage is common during the winter season. The biting cold and the harsh winds can create a lot of havoc on the hair. Plus there’s the dry heat indoors and static which can dry out the hair and make the hair frizzy. Add to this heat from styling tools that many of us often use during the colder seasons.
Protecting your hair from the winter is essential if you want to keep on wearing a crowning glory that you would be proud of. Here are a few hair care tips for the winter season.
Hair Care Tips for the Winter
- Make sure that your hair is dry before heading outdoors. You’ll have to wake up earlier than your usual wake up time during the winter season to ensure that you have time to dry out your hair before leaving your home. If you’re using a blow dryer to dry your hair, you may want to wake up at least 30 minutes earlier than your usual wake up call. If you would be air drying your hair, waking up 2 hours earlier than your usual wake-up time may be necessary. Of course, you should adjust your new wake-up time on the length and thickness of your hair. The longer and thicker your hair is, the more time you’ll need to dry it out. Remember that wet hair is more vulnerable to damage and if you step out with wet hair during the cold days of winter, you may find your hair has turned into ice. You would not want this to happen.
- Go for hairstyles that need minimal maintenance. The more you manipulate your hair, the bigger the chances of shedding and split ends. A good style to wear during this time is the top knot and fishtail braid. With such a hairstyle, you would not be tempted to finger-comb your hair every now and then. Remember that the more you leave your hair alone, the better things will be for your locks.
- Give your hair some hot oil treatment. Hot oil treatment will help heal the damage that your hair has sustained from everyday exposure to the elements. Argan oil is great for the hair and you can use this oil for a DIY hot oil treatment. Simply apply the Argan oil on damp hair and wrap your hair with a hot towel. Leave it overnight and come morning say hello to hair that has been repaired.
- Deep condition your hair. Pamper your hair with some deep conditioning loving every now and then. Add some hair nourishing oils such as olive oil or Argan oil to your trusty conditioner. This will give back the nutrients that your hair had lost from exposure to brisk temperatures. Simply apply the conditioner infused with nourishing oils on wet hair and leave it on for about 20 minutes. Rinse your hair as you normally do.
