As we say hello to the fall season, temperatures start to slowly plummet and when it gets colder the body becomes vulnerable to falling ill. With microbes or what we popularly refer to as pesky germs will relish the warmth of houses, stores and well-incubated offices. Various illnesses will go around and it would not be too surprising if at some point you’d start feeling sick perhaps starting with an itchy throat.

The good news is there are easy ways for you to avoid falling ill this fall! Indeed we do not want that uncomfortable feeling of illness. Getting sick also means spending money on medication and or hospitalisation. There would also be worrying involved, and this is something we all want to avoid and spare our loved ones from experiencing. So how can you avoid getting sick? Feeding yourself foods that can boost your immunity will greatly help!
Here are some foods that would help your body fight those pesky germs that are out to get you!

  • Yogurt – If there’s one microbe that gets bad press all the time, it would be bacteria. However we should not hate all bacteria. We should only hate the bad ones, those that mean to do our body harm. There are friendly or good bacteria and they are actually on our side in the war against illnesses. Yogurt is an example of food that contains tons of good bacteria. These good bacteria are quite helpful in boosting our immunity. They up our antibodies and prevent harmful bacteria such as E.coli and salmonella from thriving. Remember to always have yogurt handy in your fridge and feed yourself a few spoonfuls daily!
  • Fruits and Vegetables – Fresh fruits and vegetables are great for boosting the immune system. Include vegetables such as broccoli and bell peppers in your meals as they are loaded with phytonutrients. These phytonutrients make the immune system stronger by improving new cells and repairing damaged ones. Fresh fruits are more ideal desserts than ice creams and chocolates. Fruits are loaded with numerous antioxidants. These antioxidants protect your body’s white blood cells from getting damaged. It is the white blood cells that fight the bad bacteria and harmful toxins.
  • Leafy Greens – Yes, leafy greens are vegetables but we just want to stress how important they are especially the ever trusty spinach! You’ve seen Popeye grow muscles after eating a can of spinach and indeed can make you stronger. You’ll be able to knock out harmful bacteria just like Popeye knocks out Brutus. But cartoon aside, what is it that makes spinach and other leafy greens a powerhouse of good health? Leafy greens are packed with folate and folate is crucial in protecting your DNA and blood vessels from damage. They are also high in antioxidants!
  • Culinary Argan Oil – Just a few drizzles of Argan oil over your dishes would make them even healthier. The oil comes with a powerful healthy kick as it is loaded with antioxidants and unsaturated essential fatty acids! Not only will this gourmet oil boost your immunity, it also protects the heart and aids in brain development!
