Latest Rules for Sun Safety

It’s summer! It’s time to bring out your swim wear, prepare your picnic basket, get out your towels and umbrellas and head for the beach! Summer just brings with it a ton of outdoor activities, loads of family gatherings, and a bunch of happy times with friends. What should be looked into though is that despite all of the fun that is yet to come, summer also brings much heat and skin damage from the sun. Yup! You read right. You better watch out for the sun during summer!

Well there was a time when protecting your skin from the sun was unheard of. Then came the time when a simple hat or shade could protect you and your skin from the sun. After which, a thin layer of SPF 15 came into play. But today, there are new rules you need to know about in keeping yourself safe from the sun and its UV rays.

SPF 15?

Sunscreen with an SPF of 15 used to be more than enough to keep skin protected from the sun. Now that it is 2011, this has changed. As the ozone layer becomes thinner and thinner, the sun’s rays are becoming more and more dangerous for the skin. Sunscreens with at least an SPF 30 are now needed to better protect the skin. Re-application every few hours is still a must though. Aside from a higher SPF, antioxidant-enriched moisturizers should now also go with your sunscreen.

The sun will dry up your skin. As it is known today, sunscreen will help keep out sun damage but will not moisturize your skin. You see, sweating and being in the heat will dehydrate the skin faster than normal. This fast dehydration will dry out skin making it look rough and withered. You wouldn’t want that, right?

It is important to use not just any type of moisturizer on your skin. Unfortunately it is not that simple. The moisturizer you need to use should be rich in antioxidants. Why? Because the sun’s rays gives out free radicals that destroy your collagen and elastin fibers and antioxidants help prevent free radicals from attacking. Aside from protection from free radicals, antioxidants help boost up your protection from the soon as well. Antioxidants maybe found in different foods like soy and green tea.

Argan oil is one of the best moisturizers you can use on your skin. It is highly rich in antioxidants that fight off free radicals. An oil that comes naturally from the kernels of the argan tree, argan oil is pressed in order to obtain the antioxidant rich oil. It is bottled without adding any chemicals or other ingredients. Pure as it is, argan oil gives the skin protection and moisture.

Times have changed and how you should be protecting your skin from the sun’s rays has changed as well. Now that it’s summer, you need to prepare your skin from the heat and harmful rays. Get the right SPF and moisturize appropriately!
