You may have been hearing or reading that naturally healthy hair can be achieved easily. If you’re having problems with your locks, obviously, such a statement would be hard to believe. Your hair care routine may be the root of all your hair problems. If your hair care routine is not spot on or if you’re not caring for it at all, you can suffer from hair breakage, flyaways, split ends, frizzy hair, dandruff, dull hair and even hair loss.

Your Hair Products

If you often apply hair products such as gel, spray or mousse with alcohol as an active ingredient in them, your hair will become dry. Applying hair products directly to your scalp is also not an ideal habit as this would clog the pores on your scalp. A great hair product to use is the Moroccan Argan oil. It keeps the hair healthy and strong because of its high content of Vitamin E, essential fatty acids and other antioxidants.

Drying Your Hair

Do you blow dry your hair? Too much heat can fry your hair so it’s best to just have the dryer on its cool setting when in use. The right way of blowdrying your hair is to keep the dryer moving and holding it a few inches away from the hair. It’s actually more ideal to air dry the hair. After a bath or a shower, pat your hair with a dry towel and just let it dry naturally. If there are tangles or knots, just use your fingers to gently untangle them.

Combing or Brushing Your Crowning Glory

You may have been used to combing or brushing your hair right after a bath or shower but doing this is actually damaging to your hair. Hair is at its most vulnerable state when wet so refrain from combing or brushing until your hair is almost dry. Brush bristles made from animal hair is gentler to your hair. It’s also best to use a comb or brush with bristles or teeth that are widely spaced as well as smooth tips.

Washing Your Hair with Shampoo and/or Conditioner

There are shampoos formulated for different types of hair so be sure that you use one that is best suited for your hair type. Don’t shower with hot water as this would dry out your hair and even irritate your scalp. Don’t be too lazy to wash your hair. Washing your crowning glory means removing dirt, dead skin as well as oil that have accumulated in your hair. If you’re applying hair products in your hair, all the more that you need to wash. For oily hair the general rule is everyday wash while people with dry hair should wash their hair about 2 – 3 times a week. But of course if you know that your hair has been exposed to dirt and pollution and you feel that you need to clean your hair, you should wash it then. Rotate your shampoo and conditioner routine.
