Learning More About the Skin and Wrinkles

Early Appearance Wrinkles Are A Sign Of A Stressful Lifestyle

Many of us can get an estimate of how old people are by simply looking at their faces, more particularly their skin. As we get older, wrinkles start showing and this is only but normal. Someone who spends too much time under the sun or in tanning beds or lighting up sticks and sticks of cigarettes tend to develop more wrinkles compared to those who do not do these things. Let us get to know more about the skin. The skin has three layers. The epidermis is the outermost layer which is visible to the eyes. The layer in the middle is the dermis and the subcutaneous layer is the innermost layer.

Why Young People Do Not Have Wrinkles

Young people do not have wrinkles as the skin still performs an excellent job of stretching and locking in moisture. The middle layer of the skin has elastic propertity because of the fibres referred to as elastin. Elastin is responsible for keeping your skin looking and feeling young. Collagen is a protein found in the dermis that plays a major role in keeping wrinkles at bay. As we age, the dermis starts losing both its collagen and elastin. THis results to the thinning of the skin. As the skin becomes thinner, it has difficulties sending enough moisture to the outermost layer of the skin or the epidermis. The subcutaneous layer holds the fat that is responsible for that plump appearance of the skin. However as we start aging the fat starts disappearing which results to the sagging of the epidermis which then leads to the formation of wrinkles.

At What Age Do Wrinkles Start Developing?

There is not a definite age when wrinkles would start appearing. Some would start having wrinkles even when they are just in their 20’s because of spending too much time under the sun while some have them in their 40’s. Others may start developing wrinkles at a much later age like 50’s or 60’s. Usually people who develop wrinkles at a later age have taken excellent care of their skin, have more sebum or have “good genes”. However, everyone will get wrinkles in due time. Wrinkles are just a part of the natural process of growing older.
