More than the fear of skin cancer, most women use sunscreen to prevent getting wrinkles. Their motives may be questionable and their priorities may have to be straightened out but at least their doing what’s important and that is applying sunscreen.
We cannot say the same about our male counterparts. Recent studies show that men are more at risk of skin cancer than women. To top off this troubling fact, dermatologists confirm that men older than 50 have a higher risk of developing melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. Does genetics have anything to do with this? Probably. However, a recent survey shows another possible cause…men’s lack of understanding as to the importance of applying sunscreen.
Only one third of men surveyed said that they “always” protect their skin from the sun when going out. Almost 50% of their female counterparts, meanwhile, make it a point to apply sunscreen daily. About 11 percent more men admitted that they prefer enjoying the sun without having to worry about protecting themselves from it. Almost 50%, meanwhile, confessed that they don’t know how to examine their skin for signs of damage and signs of skin cancer
Increasing awareness among men may help change this scary statistic. Just like women, men should take care of their skin, if not for vanity, for their health.

If you’re married, your wife most likely has one so lather up on sunscreen now. If you’re still a bachelor, stop making fun of how vain your partner is and join her as she lathers up on sun protection daily. To make it exciting, apply sunscreen on each other. Make sure though to re-apply in case this led to more than just applying sunscreen. If you don’t have your own, buy one now and post a note on your bathroom mirror to remind yourself to apply sunscreen 15 minutes before going out. If you’re shopping alone, make sure to buy a broad spectrum sunscreen that will protect you from both UVA and UVB rays. Re-apply every two hours or after sweating a lot.
Okay, I can hear you groaning now. But what can I do? You’re the one who’s been neglecting your skin for years. If you’re among those men above who just found out how important sunscreen is just now then most likely, your skin is already damaged from years of not applying protection from the sun. Moisturizing your skin regularly with organic products like Argan oil is as equally important. This will help revitalize your damaged skin. Argan oil also offers extra protection from environmental damage. Since it is loaded with antioxidants, your skin is protected from free radicals caused by the sun’s harmful rays.
