New Year’s Resolution: A Healthier and Happier 2014

We are already starting a new year. And when a new year comes we all start listing down the things we want to change in our lives or the goals we want to achieve. 2014 is already swinging. How are you doing with your New Year’s resolution?

Many people find it hard to keep their New Year’s Resolutions. It can be because most of us get too ambitious that we set goals for ourselves that are not practical or most likely impossible to achieve so we give up. The key to keeping your New Year’s resolution is to make small changes, take little steps, and in the long run, you’ll see that they do add up.

If your goal this 2014 is to be healthier and happier then here are some things that you might want to squeeze into your New Year’s Resolution list. If you have not made one yet, then you can adapt these things. If you are not big on making a resolution, then you can use these ideas as a guide to be healthier this 2014.

New Year’s Resolution Ideas for a Healthier Year

  • Set a healthier diet for you and your family. There are plenty of ways on how you can do this, however the best things you can do is have more fruits and vegetables, cut down on sweetened and carbonated drinks, limit eating junk food and fast food meals. For example, instead of snacking on potato chips on your breaks or when watching movies, munch on nuts instead.
  • Be more active. Try hitting a goal of at least one hour of physical activity each day. A simple walk around your neighborhood, or playing a friendly hoops or tennis match with your friends are great. If you have a bike, then get rolling. You can also go swimming, dancing or do any physical activity that you enjoy. The idea is to keep moving.
  • Set some time for relaxation every day. With a very hectic schedule, many of us forget to unwind and relax. But this is not healthy for us. We all can use a little break from our stressful day. So make sure that you set aside time for relaxation on your everyday schedule. Whether it be just 15 minutes, half an hour or an hour. You should always have time for some relaxation.
  • Spend some quality time with your family and loved ones. Aside from forgetting to have some relaxation, many of us get disconnected with loved ones, family, and friends. Sure, many of us have a hectic schedule. But when we feel disconnected, we feel lonely and some of us even get depressed. So we start making ourselves feel better by indulging in unhealthy things such as sweets, alcohol, and some even turn to drugs. Make it a point that you connect with your loved ones at least once a week, with your friends at least once or twice a month and don’t wait for the holidays to spend time with your family.
