Skin Care Tips for Your New Year’s Skin Resolutions Part 2

We are nearing the end of 2013, and of course we want to help your new year become a great year for your skin. So here are a few more skin care tips that you can include in your New Year’s Skin Resolutions. If you are reading this post with the New Year’s celebration already over or whether if we are already deep in 2014, it’s never too late to include these tips in your skin care regimen.

Skin Care Tips for Your New Year’s Skin Resolutions

  1. Stop yourself from picking at your skin. Many of us have this habit of picking on a blemish. This is a nasty habit that we should kick. The average life of a blemish is actually short, about 3-5 days. But if you pick on it, you can make it stick around for around 1-2 months. However tempting picking at your skin may be, you should muster all control you have to stop yourself from doing it. You would not want to make your skin problem worse. Picking at your skin can force bacteria in deeper which can worsen things and result to further breakouts and scarring.
  2. Get at least 8 hours of shut-eye every night. If you have not been giving your body the rest it deserves, time to change this come 2014. Getting enough sleep every day does not only mean avoiding having to wear pesky dark circles or bags under the eyes. During the night time when you’re asleep is when the skin repairs and renews itself. It is also the time when your body is most active metabolically speaking. Therefor it is the time when your body gets rid of toxins which would otherwise start wreaking havoc in your skin. You should also remember that sleep is a great stress reducer and we already know that stress aggravates skin conditions such as acne.
  3. Make it a habit to clean your cosmetic brushes at least once a week. Your cosmetic brushes can star becoming a breeding ground for bacteria. They also can start accumulating oil and oil and bacteria on your cosmetic brushes can only lead to clogged pores and skin breakouts. Simply wash your brushes with a liquid dish soap and rinse thoroughly with cold water. To prevent the bristles from tangling, comb them and let them stand upright in a glass out in the sun to dry up. For sponges, wash them with a mild soap and rinse thoroughly after every use. Make sure that you let them dry out in the sun too to kill off bacteria.
  4. Have your moles checked. At least once a year, you should make it a habit to visit a dermatologist and have your moles checked. In the United States, melanoma is increasing faster than any other type of cancer. So go ahead and put “a full body check appointment with your dermatologist” on your priority list of to-do things this year. This is especially if you have a family history of skin cancer, you are fair-head or you have been exposed to the sun excessively. Early detection of melanoma and other types of skin cancer can save your life.
