So Long Split Ends!

Not many of us welcome split ends. Although split ends is not in any way a serious health problem, many of us try various ways on how to get rid of this hair issue.

Split ends is usually a concern of many women but men can also have them.

What is Hair Split Ends

Many would probably not know what Trichoptilosis is. This is a fancy way to say split ends.

Basically when hair fiber split longitudinally, split ends happen. Aside from the fact that split ends make a head of hair less appealing, further hair damage can happen if split ends are not treated properly.

Split ends make hair strand brittle, easy to break and easy to fall.

Split Ends Have Types?

This may sound a surprise to many but yes there are types of split ends. The most common type is split ends on the tip or end of the hair.

There is also the type where the splitting happens in the middle of hair strands while another type is the splitting happening a few times on the same hair strand.

You Can Prevent Your Hair from Splitting

Now this is great news! If you have tried numerous way to prevent split ends but you have had very little success then you have come to the right place.

  • Trim your hair regularly. – If you have split hair ends then the easiest way to get rid of them is to cut them off. Regular trimming means about every 6 to 8 weeks. The reason behind why hair split ends is more common to women than men is because of the fact that men generally go and have their hair cut more often than women do. Your regular hair trim should be about a quarter inch to 1 inch in length. If it so happens that your split ends are just going hay wire, you can do the cutting of your hair split ends. Always remember to cut about a quarter inch above the split.
  • Save your hair from harsh chemicals. – If you don’t like seeing split ends on your hair then you better lay off hair dyes, hair straightening products and other hair products that have harsh chemicals in them.
  • Avoid heating up your hair. – By this we mean hair dryers and sun’s heat. Letting your hair air dry is the best option however if you would be using a blwo dryer, do not have it on high setting. Also try to cut down on how often you blow dry your hair. Overexposing your hair under the sun may also cause split ends.
  • Keep your crowning glory healthy. – The best way to prevent split ends is to keep your hair healthy and strong. You probably are wondering what it would take to keep your hair healthy.
