Stop Acne and Acne Myths from Spreading

There are so many myths that have been spread and still spreading about acne. It is true that many of us have had our own unwanted case of breakouts but the best way to combat anything is to have the right information.

Here are some of the most popular acne myths!

Acne Myths

  • Often washing of your face will help remove acne! Hopefully this is true but the truth of the matter is acne would not clear up by just simply washing your face often. You would have to thank advertisements for anti acne products for this myth. You may have been seeing and hearing in TV ads that acne is caused by dirt that clogs your pores. To set things straight, you must know that the pores of your skin do not get blocked from the exterior. Rather the blockage happens from deep down the skin. The walls of a pore start sticking together which results to the formation of acne. Washing the face too often can actually cause acne as this can irritate the pores. It is best to wash your face at most twice a day and without the washcloth.
  • Sexual activity causes acne! You can be stuck in the 17th century if you still believe this myth. This myth was started out to deter the young adults from engaging in premarital sex. There is no scientific evidence that supports this claim. What is known is that higher levels of androgen can increase the sex drive of individuals and that having high levels of androgen can be related to more serious cases of acne. Therefore it is more plausible that higher level of androgen is connected to acne and not the desire or the sexual activity itself.
  • The sun will clear out your acne! There is some truth to this myth. One should note that mild sun exposure can be beneficial for symptoms of acne especially acne on the body. However it is important to remember that about 10 to 20 minutes of sun expose per day if you have lighter skin and 20 to 30 minutes per day of sun exposure for those with darker skin is the ideal duration.Overexposing your skin to the sun’s rays can damage the skin therefore resulting to irritation. This skin irritation can also lead to more acne. Usually acne would spring out after weeks of overexposure to the sun.

Now that we have these myths cleared out, you have a better chance of defeating this skin problem. But here’s another question, that many people are wondering about. Is Argan oil helpful in treating acne?

Can Argan Oil Help Against Acne?

Argan oil is one of the hottest cosmetic products today. Many are raving about the amazing beauty benefits of the oil to the skin. It is a great moisturizer and can also help in reducing or minimizing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots. But what about acne?

Argan oil has been long believed to be effective in treating certain skin conditions including acne. However, it is important to note that scientific studies supporting this are lacking. The only evidence that we have as of the moment regarding the oil’s effectiveness against acne is anecdotal or based on what people have been saying. The oil may be able to help in acne problems because it contains essential fatty acids (EFAs) and EFAs have been believed to help bring down overproduction of sebum – one of the causes of acne.
