How to Prevent Wrinkles and Promote Longevity
- Avoid too much sun exposure. Sun exposure ranks as the number one cause of premature wrinkles. Of course, we cannot simply avoid going outdoors altogether as this is unhealthy. The best thing to do is to wear sunscreen every day no matter what the season may be. Make sure that you use a sunscreen lotion with broad spectrum protection and with an SPF of at least 30. See to it that you apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before heading outdoors and reapply at least after every 2 hours or after sweating excessively. Minimize your use of tanning beds as tanning beds can also cause wrinkles and increases your risk of skin cancer.
- Do not smoke cigarettes. Did you know that the second leading cause of premature skin aging is smoking? Cigarettes contain tons of chemicals that are just bad for the skin and for your overall health. Many chemicals in cigarettes disrupt the body’s natural process of breaking down old skin and renewing it which leads to early onset of wrinkles. Nicotine in cigarettes also constricts blood vessels therefore transport of nutrients and oxygen essential for the skin’s health and functions are blocked. If you do smoke, start quitting now. You can start cutting down on the number of sticks you smoke every day. Do it gradually until you reach zero cigarette in a day.
- Limit your consumption of alcohol. Alcohol in moderation is okay but if you drink like a fiend then that is no good. It’s not good for your skin and for your overall health. Drink less frequent and when you drink, do so in moderation. If there is one alcoholic drink that you can drink every day that would be red wine. But drink only one glass or roughly 4 ounces of red wine a day. Red wine is not only good for your heart, it also has anti-aging properties.
