Winter Hair Care: Keeping up with the Cold Season

How does your hair care routine keep up with the different demands of the changing seasons? Each season brings with it different challenges that you must keep up with to make sure your hair stays gorgeous all year round. The cold, dry winter air can make your hair limp and lifeless.

Indoor atmosphere becomes dry because of indoor heating which results to the hair losing its moisture thus becoming dry. We all know that dry hair is brittle and more prone to breakage and split ends. Winter can be a really pain to deal with.

Worried your hair will not be up to facing the round of holiday partying? Read on for some strategies that can help you maintain that gorgeous mane.

How do you wear your hat?

We tend to blame the cold and indoor heating for our bad hair days but we also forget that wearing a hat or a scarf to protect your hair from the elements can flatten hair and cause sebaceous glands to over-produce oil. The excess oil causes the hair to become limp and lifeless.

The first rule is to avoid wearing too tight caps and hats. The cap or hat should be clean and dry when you wear it. If you are fond of woolen hats remember to send them to dry cleaning. Never put on your hat immediately after blow drying hair. If your hair is still warm, it can follow and take on the shape of the hat.

Holiday merriment can spell hair trouble

Don’t let your hair suffer from your holiday excesses. Too much partying can dry out your hair as it becomes exposed to cigarette smoke and lack of proper air circulation. Wanting to look your best at these parties can lead you to overuse styling products which can harm your hair. Use a clarifying shampoo to prevent product build up on your hair. When your hair becomes too limp and lifeless, you should have yourself an intense moisturizing and conditioning session.
