Many of us crave for a healthy head of hair. Healthy hair is silky soft, smooth and luxurious. Now who would not want that?! The most popular advice that we receive to get that dreamy hair is to lather, rinse and repeat. So we lather our hair with shampoo and conditioner, rinse then repeat. And we end up waiting for that great result…forever and a day.
Shampoo and conditioner alone will not give you that beautiful hair you’ve been dreaming about since you were little. You’ll have to expand your thinking if you want to have that luxurious hair. Step out of the shower and go straight to your kitchen. Healthy hair will begin in your kitchen!
Each month, the hair will grow a quarter to a quarter inch. For the hair to grow it needs to be fed certain nutrients. The same goes for our nails and skin. If you’ve been feeding your body junk then expect that you won’t have that glorius hair you’ve been wanting to wear. On the other hand if you stick to a healthy diet, not only will your body be stronger, your hair and skin will be beautiful!

- Dark Leafy Greens – Spinach gave Popeye immense strength but did you know that spinach and other dark leafy greens can give you a healthy head of hair? Leafy greens are loaded with Vitamins A and C. These two nutrients are essential in the production of sebum, our hair’s natural conditioner. Dark leafy greens are also great sources of calcium and iron. So chow on spinach, broccoli, Swiss chard and other dark leafy greens!
- Salmon – There are certain foods that pack a good load of beauty prowess and salmon is among that tops the list. Its high content of Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin B-12 makes salmon a great beauty food! Omega-3 fatty acids promote healthy scalp. If your body lacks omega-3 fatty acid you’ll end up with dry scalp and dull-looking hair. Vitamin B-12 supports healthy hair growth.
- Beans – “Eat your beans”! Back when we were kids, our mothers would tell us to eat our beans which most of us reluctantly did! Well, mom’s right once again! You should see to it that you include legumes such as lentils and kidney beans in your diet if you want beautiful hair! A serving of at least 3 cups a week is recommended! Loaded with protein, legumes promote healthy hair growth. They are also packed with iron, zinc as well as biotin. Although biotin deficiency is quite rare those with such deficiency usually suffer from brittle hair!
- Nuts – You’re nuts to skip nuts! If you want luxurious and shiny hair then munch on some nuts. Brasil nuts promote healthy scalp as they are packed with selenium while walnuts are great sources of alpha-linolenic acid (an omega-3) which help condition the hair. Cashews and almonds are packed with zinc which can prevent excessive hair fall!
